As we inch towards Pride month, a talented group of people have released books to prep us for all the queerness June has to bring with some amazing books that are available now for purchase.
One of the most prominent voices in feminism and racial justice Rachel E. Cargle released her new book “A Renaissance of Our Own” on May 16th. The book is a “deeply personal and insightful testament to the power of reimagining to dismantle the frameworks and systems that no longer serve us while building new ones that do” — a topic marginalized voices need to put in the forefront.
In the book which has already received numerous rave reviews, Cargle dives deep into her journey, getting personal and recounting the transformation she embarked on in her own life—from an adolescence seemingly defined by “struggle, drama and chaos” to a life filled with intentionality, possibility, and purpose.

From America’s Next Top Model to Boys Don’t Cry to Tangerine to Pose to RuPaul’s Drag Race, journalist Tre’vell Anderson unpacks the groundbreaking history of transgender representation in TV and film with their new book “We See Each Other: A Black, Trans Journey Through TV and Film” available now.
Described as a “literary reckoning” and lauded as a “an excellent examination of the current state of on-screen trans representation and its real-life effects” by the Library Journal, “We See Each Other” is a history of trans visibility since the beginning of moving images. It spotlights “transcestry” that’s long existed in plain sight and history but near was brought to light. In the book, Anderson further contextualizes our present moment of increased representation.

Star of stage and screen Andrew Rannells dropped his own literary work titled “Uncle of the Year: And Other Debatable Triumphs” on May 16th. As the title suggests, Rannells tells stories of his life as he navigates his career in Hollywood and Broadway as well as dating, aging, mental health, bad jobs, and other struggles that are normal for most human beings. In the title essay “Uncle of the Year,” he explores the role that children play in his life, as a gay man who never thought having kids was necessary or even possible—until his siblings have kids and he falls in love with a man with two of his own. According to Rannells’s Black Monday co-star Casey Wilson, the book is “beautiful, hilarious, and touching.
Through mix of absurd and wisdom-filled essays, Rannells challenges us to take a long look at who we’re pretending to be, who we know we are, and who we want to become.
Teacher, advocate, and husband of former presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, Chasten Buttigeig has released his second book “I Have Something To Tell You — For Young Adults”.
Growing up Traverse City, Michigan, Buttigieg felt like he didn’t always fit in. He felt different from his father and brothers, who loved to hunt and go camping, and out of place in the rural, conservative small town where he lived. Back then, blending in was more important than feeling seen. His best-selling memoir “I Have Something To Tell You” was originally released in May 2022 and now, a year later, he has given his memoir a bit of a makeover for YA audiences, which includes new stories as well as resources for readers, parents, and teachers.
NFL player, writer, and advocate R.K. Russell made waves and blazed trails in the sports world as he came out as bisexual in an essay for ESPN. Since coming out, he has shared his story in The New York Times, The Guardian, The Los Angeles Times, Out Magazine, and Queer Majority. Now, his story is expanded through his new memoir “The Yards Between Us” which was released on May 16.
In “The Yards Between Us”, Russell explores his love of football, men and women and walking that tightrope of keeping his sexuality secret. He tells us the tension he felt between his private and public lives and ultimately, the importance of crashing through barriers.
